The Vatnagedda is a mythical creature from Icelandic folklore said to inhabit the lakes of Iceland.
It’s commonly described as a large flounder-like fish with a lot of hair. Due to its aversion to light, it’s said to dwell within the deepest, darkest lakes of Iceland, surfacing solely during stormy or foggy weather. Vatnagedda are said to be so poisonous that just touching them can dissolve both organic and inorganic substances, posing a lethal threat not only to humans but also to ethereal entities such as spirits and ghosts.
